Never Enough: Country Pushes Knife Control in Wake of Terror Attack

Here we go again. Another horrific act of violence, and yet, the response from our so-called leaders is to go after the tool, not the person. On August 23rd, a radical Islamist armed with a knife stabbed three people to death and wounded eight others at a festival in Solingen, Germany. According to federal prosecutors, this attacker—whose name we’re often not allowed to say—was acting on the extremist beliefs of the Islamic State. That’s right, this wasn’t just some random act of violence; this was an ideologically motivated massacre, aimed squarely at innocent people.

But how did Germany respond? By talking about “knife control.” Yes, you heard that correctly. Instead of confronting the root problem—the dangerous ideology that fuels these kinds of attacks—their Social Democratic Party Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, announced that Germany would tighten its knife laws. He said, “We will now have to tighten up the weapons regulations… in particular with regard to the use of knives.” A terrorist stabs three people to death, and the solution is to make it harder for law-abiding citizens to own kitchen knives?

What’s next? Should we be surprised if they ban kitchen utensils outright? Maybe spoons too, since those can be sharp in the wrong hands. This would be laughable if it weren’t so tragic.

The truth is, this attack should have never happened in the first place. The suspect wasn’t even supposed to be in Germany. Authorities had planned to deport him to Bulgaria last year but failed because, get this, he wasn’t at his refugee accommodation when they came for him. So the government lost track of a dangerous man with known extremist beliefs, and now they want to punish everyday Germans with even more restrictions. It’s insanity.

Germany’s proposed knife laws are as absurd as they sound. Public events, markets, sports arenas, even public transport—no knives allowed. And if that weren’t enough, they’re pushing to cut the legal blade length from 12 centimeters to 6. Switchblades? Gone altogether. This move is right out of the leftist playbook: focus on inanimate objects, and completely ignore the criminal element.

Here’s a question that anyone with a working brain should be asking: Do they really think that more regulations will stop extremists from obtaining knives? Has it ever worked? Let’s look at prisons, some of the most tightly controlled environments on the planet. Despite all the security and restrictions, prisoners still find ways to craft makeshift weapons out of virtually anything. If criminals can’t be stopped from fashioning weapons behind bars, how on earth does Germany think they’ll prevent this in the real world? The criminals, the extremists, the real threats—they don’t follow the law.

What’s even more frustrating is how eerily similar this is to the gun control debate in America. Whenever there’s a shooting, the first thing we hear from the left is the need for stricter gun laws. It’s never about punishing the criminals; it’s always about taking away rights from law-abiding citizens. Take Washington, D.C., for example. Crime is spiraling out of control, and what’s the local leadership doing? Advocating for more gun control, despite a staggering amount of evidence showing that most gun violence is perpetrated by a small group of repeat offenders who are already known to the justice system.

In D.C., a December 2021 report found that 60-70% of all gun violence was committed by just 500 individuals, many of whom had been arrested over a dozen times. But instead of prosecuting these violent criminals, the U.S. Attorney’s Office under Matthew Graves decided to drop or plea down more than 2,000 gun cases. The government’s response to its own failure? Go after your rights.

This is the exact same playbook Germany is using with knives. Their leaders are more interested in appearing “tough on violence” than in actually stopping it. They’d rather pass laws that look good in a press release than confront the reality of the problem: their inability to control immigration, track dangerous individuals, and deal with extremists.

Make no mistake, this isn’t just about knives. This is about the left’s obsession with control. They want to regulate every aspect of your life, whether it’s the tools you use to defend yourself or the basic right to be safe from harm. And instead of taking real action to keep you safe, they’ll just keep passing laws that only make life harder for law-abiding citizens.

Germany’s knife control push won’t solve the problem of radical Islamic extremism. What it will do is punish people who’ve done nothing wrong. Just like in the U.S., where law-abiding gun owners are constantly under attack, the German people are now being told they can’t be trusted with something as basic as a kitchen knife. And that’s not just dangerous—it’s delusional.
