Congressional Republicans Push National “Gun Sanctuary” Resolution

In a bold assertion of Second Amendment protections, a group of Congressional Republicans has introduced a new resolution urging all U.S. counties and municipalities to adopt “Second Amendment Sanctuary” status, sending a clear message to the Biden administration and federal regulators that any federal overreach on gun control will be met with local resistance.

The resolution, led by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and co-sponsored by over 30 Republican lawmakers, calls for counties across the nation to refuse enforcement of federal laws or executive orders that infringe on constitutionally protected gun rights.

“Our Constitution is not up for debate,” said Rep. Massie at a press conference. “Millions of Americans live in communities where local officials refuse to be the foot soldiers of federal overreach. This resolution gives them support from the top.”

Growing National Momentum

The “Second Amendment Sanctuary” movement has already taken root in more than 1,200 counties nationwide, where sheriffs and local governments have passed ordinances pledging not to enforce unconstitutional gun control measures. The new federal resolution adds weight to that momentum by encouraging legal consistency and pressuring the Department of Justice to back off of states and localities protecting their citizens’ rights.

Support from Gun Rights Advocates

Gun Owners of America (GOA) and the National Association for Gun Rights have praised the initiative as a necessary step in resisting what they call “creeping federal disarmament.”

“This resolution is a signal that gun owners are done playing defense,” said GOA Senior Vice President Erich Pratt. “From red flag laws to unconstitutional bans on firearm parts, the American people are saying ‘no more.’”

Critics Warn of Legal Conflicts

Gun control groups, however, have decried the measure as dangerous and legally questionable. They argue it could create confusion between state and federal law enforcement and undermine public safety.

But constitutional attorneys backing the resolution say it’s nothing new — similar legal doctrines have protected states from enforcing federal immigration law and even marijuana policy. “If sanctuary cities are acceptable for other federal issues, they should be acceptable when it comes to defending constitutional rights,” said one legal expert.

Conclusion

With the introduction of this resolution, gun rights supporters are putting Washington on notice: communities across the nation are not willing to comply with unconstitutional gun restrictions. Whether symbolic or enforceable, the movement marks a growing trend — the rise of local resistance in the defense of the Second Amendment.
