Congresswoman charged with strange gun crime

U.S. Representative Victoria Spartz from Indiana has been charged with a weapons violation after she inadvertently brought a handgun into Dulles International Airport near Washington, D.C. The incident occurred on Friday, June 28, when the .380 caliber handgun was discovered in her carry-on bag during a TSA screening.

According to Spartz, the gun was unloaded and mistakenly packed in her suitcase.

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority confirmed the charge, noting that Spartz was issued a citation.

Despite the incident, she was allowed to continue on her international flight to attend a meeting of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly in Europe.

Spartz, who is originally from Ukraine, has represented Indiana’s 5th Congressional District since 2021.

Initially announcing she would not seek reelection, she later reversed her decision and successfully defended her seat against multiple GOP primary challengers, securing her position in the upcoming general election this November.
