Gun Owning Homeowner Stops Burglar in his Tracks
A would-be burglar was shot on April Fool’s Day, taking two bullets as he allegedly attempted to break into a home on Bay City’s East Side.
At 4:48 p.m. on Monday, April 1, police responded to an apartment building in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street after a citizen called 911 to report a bleeding man outside. Officers arrived to find a 33-year-old man had suffered two gunshot wounds to his torso.
Officers’ preliminary investigation indicates the wounded man had been armed with a pipe and had broken into the apartment. One of the residents shot him twice in a common area of the building, police said.
The wounded man was taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition.
Police collected evidence at the scene. They did not arrest any of the residents and said the incident did not appear to have been random.
Detectives are continuing to investigate. Once they’ve finished their probe, they’ll send their findings to the Bay County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
